Yellowstone National Park, Day Three, Part 1

On Sunday, June 19, we started our third day (and second full day) in Yellowstone with a quick breakfast at the Canyon Lodge Soda Fountain.  Our first stop was the South Rim of Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone for a quick view at the brink of the Upper Falls.  We then stopped at Mud Volcano which was quite foul smelling.  Our last stop in Yellowstone was at the Grant Village Visitor Center to view an exhibit on the 1988 fires in Yellowstone. The 1988 fires were devastating to the park and affected nearly 36 percent of the park’s acreage. The fires ended with the early September snowfall. Their effects can still be seen today throughout the park.
