Herbert Hoover National Historic Site
After leaving Iowa City, Iowa, and on our way to Chicago, we passed West Branch, Iowa, the birthplace of Herbert Hoover, the 31st President of the United States, and site of the Herbert Hoover National Historic Site. Being a history buff, I knew I had to make a quick stop to check it out (even if Hoover was a Republican, and keeping in mind the relief work he performed during the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927), but once again Clare and Conor refused to participate in my mini-history course in the U.S. Presidency. They stayed in the car, although Conor was considerate enough to snap one photo of me in front of the visitor center before he retreated to the safe confines of the Prius. I could only linger for maybe 10 minutes or so.
