Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument

After departing the Range Riders Museum (Clare and Conor were almost literally dragging me away from the front door of the museum), we traveled to Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument, located in Crow Agency, Montana. The area memorializes the battle on June 25 and 26, 1876, between the U.S. Army's 7th Cavalry and the Sioux and Cheyenne in one of the last armed efforts by Native American tribes to preserve their way of life on the North American Plains. During the battle, 263 soldiers, including Lt. Col. George A. Custer and attached personnel of the U.S. Army, died while fighting several thousand Lakota and Cheyenne warriors.
